Does a Tesla referral in Australia or New Zealand apply to the new entry Model 3 RWD?
Tesla cut the entry price of Model 3 by A$9,000 and NZ$9,000 on Oct 1. The referral page doesn't list trims, so the card for your car is the thing to read.

What changed
Check the Model 3 card before you order. Our capture of Tesla's Australian referral page from Oct 4, 2026 — three days after the new A$45,900 Model 3 RWD was announced — showed “Up to $350 Off” in the heading and “$350 Off” on a single Model 3 card that names no trim. Tesla's Australian and New Zealand terms name Model 3, not trims. Neither the page nor the terms says whether the new trim is covered, so confirm it on your order summary.
What happened
On Oct 1, 2026, Drive Tesla Canada reported a new entry Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive for Australia and New Zealand. The figures from that report:
| Australia | New Zealand | |
|---|---|---|
| New Model 3 RWD | A$45,900 before on-road costs | NZ$54,900 |
| Model 3 Premium RWD | A$54,900 (unchanged) | NZ$63,900 |
| Gap between them | A$9,000 | NZ$9,000 |
| Deliveries expected | Mid-to-late October | Late November |
The Driven reported the same car on Oct 2 at “just under $46,000 before on-roads,” and called it “nearly 20 per cent cheaper than any other Tesla EV offered in Australia.” Prices are the reports' figures, not ours. Check Tesla's own configurator for today's price.
What Tesla's referral page showed after the launch
Our capture of Tesla's Australian referral page from Oct 4, 2026 is the first copy we have from after the new trim was announced. It read:
| Part of the page | What it showed |
|---|---|
| Heading | “… Gave You Up To $350 Off a New Tesla” |
| Inventory card | “Explore Inventory” · “Up to $350 Off” |
| Model 3 card | “$350 Off” |
| Model Y card | No figure |
There is one Model 3 card. It doesn't name trims and has no exclusion note. That's different from some other countries, where Tesla prints exclusions right on the card — Malaysia and Thailand label theirs “Model Y Excl. Launch Series.” So the Oct 4 copy shows A$350 on Model 3, with no trim left out by name. It doesn't prove the new RWD gets it. We haven't seen an order summary for one.
What the terms say
We re-read Tesla's Australian Refer and Earn page (May 20, 2026 copy, “Effective August 22, 2025”) and the New Zealand page (May 13, 2026 copy, same effective date). Both say: “You can earn buyer and loyalty benefits by purchasing one of the following products: Model 3.” Referrer benefits, for the owner, are listed for Model 3 and Model Y. Neither page mentions trims.
So the new Model 3 RWD fits the plain wording. Both pages also say referral links “cannot be credited after the order is placed.” If the line isn't on your summary, you need to know before you order, not after.
New Zealand: an older copy
Our newest capture of Tesla's New Zealand referral page is from Jul 12, 2026. It showed “Up to $400 Off” (NZ$) in the heading, “$400 Off” on the Model 3 card and “Up to $400 Off” on inventory. That's almost three months before the new trim, so it's history, not a current figure. Not verified for New Zealand since then — check what Tesla's page shows before you order. New Zealand deliveries of the new trim are reported for late November, so there's time to check.
Who this affects
- First-time buyers choosing the new entry Model 3 RWD in Australia or New Zealand: read the card, then the summary.
- Model 3 Premium and Performance buyers: the Oct 4 Australian card showed A$350 on Model 3 with no trim named, the same as before the launch.
- Model Y buyers: both countries' terms list only Model 3 for buyer benefits, and the Australian Model Y card was blank on Oct 4.
- Owners: referrer benefits are listed for Model 3 and Model Y, so a friend's first Model 3 RWD should count toward yours if Tesla treats it as a Model 3. The amount is shown in your Tesla app; Tesla's public terms don't state it.
What hasn't changed
In Australia and New Zealand the referral is money off the car, applied by Tesla at checkout. There's no code to type in. The Model 3 Premium RWD price is unchanged at A$54,900, as reported. The referral figure on our latest Australian copy is the same A$350 we saw on Sep 29 and in January. The buyer benefit is still for a first qualifying Tesla only. And if the owner whose link you use has already referred 10 orders this calendar year, Tesla's terms say you “will not receive any buyer benefits.”
What to do now
Open the referral link for your country.
The address should show /en_au/ or /en_nz/.
Read the Model 3 card.
Look for the figure and any note about trims. On Oct 4, 2026 the Australian card showed “$350 Off” and named no trim.
Configure the new RWD from that page, in the same visit.
Then check the order summary for a referral line before you pay.
No line? Ask before ordering.
A referral can't be credited after the order is placed.
Save a screenshot of the card and the summary.
It's your record if the benefit is questioned.
