What does a Tesla referral code work on? Every product, checked against Tesla's terms
Tesla's terms have a short list, its referral page shows a slightly different one, and the UK list is different again. Here they are side by side.
Short answer
In the US, a referral works on Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck Premium AWD and Cyberbeast, and Tesla-installed solar panels — the terms' qualifying list. Tesla's US page also shows Powerwall beside solar, though the terms don't list it. It doesn't apply to Model S, Model X, Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD (loyalty only), used cars, Wall Connectors or Tesla Shop. The UK list is different.
The short list in Tesla's US terms
Tesla's US Refer and Earn terms (effective Aug 24, 2024, updated Feb 24, 2026) name the products that earn buyer benefits: “Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck, Solar panels.” The same four earn loyalty and referrer benefits. Two footnotes narrow it: Cybertruck Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive is loyalty-only, and energy products count only if Tesla installs them. Pre-owned vehicles never qualify; Tesla says you “must custom order or purchase a new inventory vehicle using a referral link.”
The referral page, which is what you actually open, doesn't match the list exactly. That's why a product-by-product check is worth doing.
| Product | US buyer benefit | US referrer earns | UK buyer benefit | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Model 3 | Yes | Yes | Yes | US and UK terms; both countries' referral pages |
| Model Y | Yes | Yes | Yes | US and UK terms; both countries' referral pages |
| Cybertruck Premium AWD, Cyberbeast | Yes | Yes | Not in the UK list | US terms; US page card note “Premium AWD & Cyberbeast” |
| Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD | No — loyalty only | No | — | US terms, footnote 2 |
| Model S, Model X | No (since the Feb 24, 2026 update) | No | In the UK terms' list; no card on the UK page | US terms Feb 15 vs Jun 15, 2026; UK terms Jun 12, 2026; UK page Sep 29, 2026 |
| Solar panels (Tesla-installed) | Yes | Yes | Not in the UK list | US terms; US page card |
| Powerwall | On the page card; not in the terms' list | Not in the terms' list | Not in the UK list | US page card “Solar Panels & Powerwall” |

Model 3 and Model Y
The two products every country we've checked carries. On Tesla's US page on Oct 3, 2026, each card read “3 mo. Full Self-Driving (Supervised).” In the UK on Sep 29, 2026: “650 Free Supercharging Miles.” Other countries show other benefits; the homepage table lists them by country with their dates.
Cybertruck: Premium AWD and Cyberbeast vs Dual Motor AWD
Cybertruck is a qualifying product in the US, but not every trim. The US page's Cybertruck card reads “3 mo. Full Self-Driving (Supervised)” with the note “Premium AWD & Cyberbeast,” and the terms' footnote says the Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive “is eligible for loyalty benefits only and cannot be purchased to earn buyer or referrer benefits.” If you're configuring the Dual Motor AWD, a referral link gives you nothing as a buyer. The Cybertruck answer in our FAQ has the country-by-country view.
Model S and Model X in 2026
The US terms changed on Feb 24, 2026. The Feb 15, 2026 copy listed Model S and Model X for buyer, loyalty and referrer benefits; the Jun 15, 2026 copy doesn't. Tesla's US referral page followed: S and X were on it on Mar 1, 2026 and gone by Apr 1, 2026.
The UK is different on paper. Tesla's UK terms (Jun 12, 2026 copy, “Updated June 4, 2025”) still list Model S and Model X as qualifying. But the UK referral page on Sep 29, 2026 showed only Model Y and Model 3 cards. Tesla's terms don't explain the gap, and the UK terms may have changed since our copy. If an S or X is what you want in the UK, ask Tesla before ordering whether a referral benefit applies.
Solar panels — only if Tesla installs them
Solar panels are a full qualifying product in the US, with one condition repeated three times in the terms: they count “only… if you have them installed by Tesla.” The US page's card read “Solar Panels & Powerwall, $400 Off” on Oct 3, 2026. If solar is your first Tesla product, the referral's buyer benefit lands there, and the car you buy afterwards is a loyalty purchase.
Powerwall: on the page, not in the list
Powerwall shares the solar card on Tesla's US referral page, but it isn't on any of the terms' qualifying lists — buyer, loyalty or referrer. Tesla doesn't reconcile the two. If you're buying solar with a Powerwall, the solar panels are the qualifying product. If you're buying a Powerwall on its own, ask Tesla whether the card's benefit applies before you order.
Solar Roof
Solar Roof appears once in Tesla's US terms: in the list of products that make you “already part of the Tesla community.” It isn't on the qualifying list and has no card on the US referral page. On the terms as written, a referral doesn't give a buyer benefit on Solar Roof — and owning one may make you an existing customer.
Demo drives — owner side only
The US page has a Demo Drive card, and the terms let an owner earn “up to 30 demo drive referrals over the life of the account” when a friend completes a first demo drive for Model 3, Model Y or Cybertruck through their link. There's no buyer benefit for the person who drives. The UK terms don't mention demo-drive referrals. How demo-drive referrals work.
Things a referral doesn't touch
Wall Connectors, Tesla Shop items and accessories aren't on any list in the US or UK terms, and there's no card for them on a referral page. A referral link doesn't change their price. The only connection is on the spending side: Tesla Credits you earn from the program can pay for Tesla Shop purchases.
The UK list is different
Side by side, the UK terms (Jun 12, 2026 copy) list Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y — no Cybertruck, no solar, no demo drives. They also say “Certified Pre-Owned vehicles are not qualifying.” Any other country's list: not verified by us. Check that country's own Refer and Earn support page before you rely on a list from another country.
How to check your product on the day
Open the referral link for the country you're buying in.
Find the card for your product. A benefit line on it is the referral.
If your product has no card, assume no buyer benefit.
Then check the terms' qualifying list for your country.
Check the “Updated” date on your country's Refer and Earn terms.
US: “Updated February 24, 2026” on our copy. A newer date means the lists may have changed.
Confirm you're a first-time buyer.
The benefit goes only to someone who has never owned a qualifying product — who counts.
