Where to find your own Tesla referral code — and share it within the rules

The taps, as Tesla describes them

1. Open the Tesla app.

   Update it first if you don't see the menu items below.

2. Tap the menu in the top-right corner.

3. Select “Refer and Earn”.

4. Tap “Refer Now”.

   Tesla's flow then lets you pick a contact and send the referral message from your phone.

Your code is the last part of your referral address: tesla.com/referral/yourcode in the US, tesla.com/en_gb/referral/yourcode in the UK, and so on. Tesla's own referral page lists the same code under dozens of store addresses, so a friend in another country uses the same code in their own store.

Who has a code

Anyone with a qualifying Tesla product on their Tesla Account. Tesla's US list of products that count as “already part of the Tesla community” is Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y, Cybertruck, Powerwall, solar panels and Solar Roof. Two exceptions to know:

• If you transfer or remove every qualifying product from your account, Tesla says your link stops being valid until you take delivery of (or activate) another one.
• Ohio and Virginia residents can get buyer and loyalty benefits but not referrer benefits, under the US terms.

How many people can use it

That last row matters for the people you share with: once you hit the cap, your link quietly stops helping them. Tesla's page shows it — the heading reads “Referral Limit Has Been Reached”. What a capped referral page looks like.

Sharing it without breaking Tesla's rules

Tesla's terms name four things it calls “not appropriate” — paid advertising, selling, paying, and offering incentives for use of referral links — and say it won't honor links tied to them (the full clause is on our disclosure page).

So: share it with people you know, say plainly that it's your referral link, and don't pay for ads or offer cash or gifts to people who use it. Tesla's stated intent is “to reward loyal Tesla customers for sharing their passion for Tesla products with their friends and family.”
