“Referral limit has been reached”: what Tesla's page is telling you
A capped code still opens Tesla's page — it just gives you nothing. Here's how to spot it before you order.
Short answer
It means the code's owner has used all 10 order referrals Tesla allows per calendar year. Tesla's terms say buyers who order through that link “will not receive any buyer benefits.” Use a different code.
What the page looks like
A working referral page opens with the owner's first name — “Order with [name]'s Referral” — and each car card carries a benefit line, such as “3 mo. Full Self-Driving (Supervised)” in the US or “650 Free Supercharging Miles” in the UK.
A capped one changes in two ways. We've seen both in archived copies of Tesla's own pages:

That last row is the trap. Nothing stops you from ordering through a capped link, and nothing on the order tells you afterwards that you missed out.
Why Tesla does this
Referrer - You can receive referrer benefits up to 10 times per calendar year… Note: If you have reached your referrer benefits limit, buyers who place their order using your referral link will not receive any buyer benefits.
The cap is the owner's, but the cost lands on you. It resets with the calendar year, so a code that's capped in November may work again in January.
How to avoid it
Open the referral link before you configure.
Look at the heading before anything else.
Read the heading.
“Order with …'s Referral” — fine. “…Limit Has Been Reached” (or the same in the store's language) — stop.
Check the card for your car shows a benefit line.
No line, no benefit.
If it's capped, use another code.

Note
Owners: if you're close to 10 referrals in a year, tell the people you share with. Once you hit the cap, your link quietly stops helping them until January.
