How do you read a Tesla referral page before you order?
A referral page is short — a heading, a few cards, a footnote — but each line tells you something, and a missing line tells you even more.
Short answer
Read it top to bottom before you configure anything. The heading names the owner and tells you whether the code is capped. Each car card's benefit line is the referral — finance lines like “1.99% APR Available” are not. A card with no benefit line means no referral benefit shows for that car on that page.
The parts of the page, at a glance
Every owner's referral page in a country shows the same benefit cards; only the name in the heading and the code in the address change. Learn the layout once and you can read any of them. The diagram is our own sketch, not Tesla's design.
Text version of this diagram
A: the heading, with the owner's first name. B: on each car card, a benefit line — this is the referral. C: on some cards, a separate finance line such as an APR — not part of the referral. D: extra cards or links for solar and Powerwall, a demo drive, or inventory, depending on the country. E: a footnote and a line saying terms and conditions apply.
A · The heading: whose referral this is
On Tesla's US, Canadian and UK pages the heading reads “Order with [first name]'s Referral.” Australia's page used a different form on Oct 4, 2026: “[first name] Gave You Up To $350 Off a New Tesla.” Either way, the name is the owner whose code is in the address — a first name only.
Check two things here. Is it the person you meant? And does the heading say something else entirely, like “…Referral Limit Has Been Reached”? That second heading means the owner has used their 10 order referrals for the calendar year, and Tesla's terms say buyers who order through it “will not receive any buyer benefits.” Stop and use a different code. The full picture is in what a capped page looks like.
B · The car cards and the benefit line
Each car gets a card: the model name, then one benefit line. That line is the referral. Here's what the main cards said on the most recent dated copies we've read:
| Country (copy date) | What the card says | Which cars |
|---|---|---|
| United States (Oct 3, 2026) | “3 mo. Full Self-Driving (Supervised)”; Cybertruck card adds “Premium AWD & Cyberbeast” | Model Y, Model 3, Cybertruck |
| United Kingdom (Sep 29, 2026) | “650 Free Supercharging Miles” | Model Y, Model 3 |
| Germany (Oct 1, 2026) | “1.000 kostenlose Supercharging Kilometer” | Model Y, Model 3 |
| Japan (Oct 4, 2026) | “¥35,000 オフ” | Model Y, Model 3 |
The Cybertruck note is part of the benefit. Tesla's US terms say Cybertruck Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive “is eligible for loyalty benefits only and cannot be purchased to earn buyer or referrer benefits.” If the trim you want isn't named on the card, the benefit isn't for it.
C · Lines that aren't the referral
Some cards carry a second line about financing. On the US page on Oct 3, 2026, the Model Y and Model 3 cards also read “1.99% APR Available.” On Mar 1, 2026 the same page showed “0% APR Available” on Model Y and “0.99% APR” on Model 3; on Dec 1, 2025 the Cybertruck card carried a lease line. Those are Tesla's general finance offers of the day, shown on the same card. They aren't referral benefits, they change on their own schedule, and the referral terms don't mention them. Judge any finance offer on its own terms at checkout.
D · Solar, demo drive and inventory
Below the cars, what you see depends on the country:
- Solar Panels & Powerwall (US). The card read “$400 Off” on Oct 3, 2026. Tesla's terms list solar panels as a qualifying product only when Tesla installs them; Powerwall appears on the card but not in the terms' qualifying list.
- Demo Drive (US). “Experience Full Self-Driving (Supervised).” This card is for booking a drive, not a buyer benefit. It lets the owner earn a demo-drive referral — up to 30 over their account's life.
- Inventory. The UK and Irish pages showed an “Explore Inventory” link, and the German, Japanese and Australian pages an inventory card. The US page showed none on Oct 3, 2026; its page settings had the inventory card switched off. New inventory cars can still qualify under Tesla's terms — pre-owned ones can't.
E · The footnote and “Terms and Conditions apply”
The US page ends with “Terms and Conditions apply.” and a numbered footnote: “Full Self-Driving (Supervised) requires the driver to remain attentive and does not make the vehicle autonomous.” The terms meant are Tesla's Refer and Earn terms — the US version reads “Effective August 24, 2024. Updated February 24, 2026.” That's where the first-purchase rule, the cap and the “cannot be applied after you place your order” line live.
When the page is in German or Japanese
Pages open in the country's language. The lines are short and few, so a translation table covers them. Translations are ours.
| Page line | Country | In English |
|---|---|---|
| Weiterempfehlungen | Germany | Referrals |
| Mit [Name]s Weiterempfehlung bestellen | Germany | Order with [name]'s referral |
| 1.000 kostenlose Supercharging Kilometer | Germany | 1,000 free Supercharging kilometers (the benefit line) |
| Bestand erkunden | Germany | Explore inventory |
| Es gelten die Kampagnen-Bedingungen | Germany | The campaign terms apply |
| ご紹介 | Japan | Referral |
| [名前]さんからのご紹介特典 | Japan | Referral benefit from [name] |
| ¥35,000 オフ | Japan | ¥35,000 off (the benefit line) |
| 在庫車を探す | Japan | Find inventory cars |
| ご利用規約が適用されます。 | Japan | Terms of use apply. |
What a missing benefit line means for your car
A card with only a model name and no benefit line means the page shows no referral benefit for that car. There are two reasons we've seen on dated copies. Either the whole page is capped — every card loses its line and the heading changes — or one model simply carries no figure in that country, as on the Australian page on Oct 4, 2026, where the Model 3 card read “$350 Off” and the Model Y card showed none. And if your model isn't on the page at all, as Model S and Model X have not been on the US page since April 2026, the referral has nothing to give you on that car.
One detail that isn't on the screen
The page's own settings, visible in its source, keep the referral in a browser cookie for 86,400 seconds — 24 hours. That's how Tesla's page is built, not a promise in the terms. Don't rely on it: read the page, then configure and order from it in the same visit.

Owner's name, not “Limit Has Been Reached.”
Your car's card.
A benefit line, and your trim named if the card names trims.
Ignore the finance line.
It's not part of the referral.
Country.
The page should be in the country you're buying in — the currency and units on the cards tell you.
