Does a Tesla referral in Hong Kong cover the new Model 3 RWD?
A cheaper Model 3 went on sale in Hong Kong at the end of August. Our newest copy of the referral page is older than the car, so here is what we know and what you need to check.

What changed
Probably, but we can't confirm it. Tesla's Hong Kong terms name Model 3, without trims, as the car that earns a buyer benefit, and the new Model 3 RWD is a Model 3. Our last copy of Hong Kong's referral page (Jul 12, 2026) showed up to HK$1,900 off on the Model 3 card, but that was before the new trim was on sale. Check the Model 3 card and your order summary before you pay.
What happened
On Aug 31, 2026, Drive Tesla Canada reported that Tesla had added a Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive in Hong Kong and Macau. According to the report, which cites Tesla's online configurator, the new car starts at HK$205,000 in Hong Kong. That makes it about 8.5% cheaper than the entry Model 3 before it. In Macau it starts at MOP252,000.
It isn't a brand-new design. The report describes it as the same simpler car “originally called the Model 3 Standard,” already sold in other countries for close to a year. Among the differences it lists: fabric seats, an all-black interior, and a lower maximum Supercharging rate of 175 kW instead of 250 kW. For the referral, the trim name matters more than the features.
What Tesla's Hong Kong terms say about Model 3
We read Tesla's Hong Kong Refer and Earn support page again in its Jun 14, 2026 copy (headed “Effective October 9, 2024”). Under “What are the qualifying Tesla products,” it lists the cars this way:
| Benefit | Cars listed |
|---|---|
| Buyer and loyalty benefits | Model 3 |
| Referrer benefits (what the owner earns) | Model 3, Model Y |
The list names models, not trims. Nothing on the page says a cheaper Model 3 is excluded, and nothing says it's included by name either. The plain reading is that a new Model 3 RWD is a Model 3, so it fits the buyer-benefit list. Tesla decides, though, not a plain reading. The terms also say a referral “cannot be credited after the order is placed,” so you need the answer before you order, not after.
What the referral page showed, and when
Our capture of Tesla's Hong Kong referral page from Jul 12, 2026 showed up to HK$1,900 off. The figure sat on the Model 3 card; the Model Y card showed none, which matches the terms above. That copy is seven weeks older than the new trim. It tells you what Tesla showed for Model 3 then. It doesn't tell you whether today's card covers the HK$205,000 car, or whether the figure is still HK$1,900.
Check the address
When your browser's time zone or language says Hong Kong, the link on this page opens Tesla's Hong Kong referral page. The code is the same in every country; only the country part of the address changes. Before you configure, make sure the address shows /en_hk/ or /zh_hk/. Another country's page shows that country's benefits, not Hong Kong's.
Who this affects
- First-time buyers choosing the new Model 3 RWD in Hong Kong. This is the case the question is about. Check the card, then the order summary.
- Buyers choosing a higher Model 3 trim. Those trims were on sale when our July copy was made. Even so, figures change, so read today's card.
- Model Y buyers. Hong Kong's terms list only Model 3 for buyer benefits, and the Model Y card was blank in July. Don't count on a figure.
- Buyers in Macau. We haven't read a Macau referral page or Macau terms. Not verified for your country yet — check what Tesla's page shows before you order.
- Anyone who already owns a Tesla. Buyer benefits are for your first qualifying Tesla product only. Loyalty benefits are the route for a second car on the same account.
How to check before you order
The order summary is the only place Tesla shows what applies to your car. A referral line there means Tesla is applying it. No line means it isn't, and the terms give you no way to add one later. Ask a Tesla advisor in Hong Kong if the card and the summary don't match, and get the answer in writing.
What hasn't changed
A referral in Hong Kong works the way it does everywhere we've read Tesla's terms. There's no box to type a code into. You open an owner's referral link, configure from that page, and Tesla applies the benefit to your order. The owner can refer up to 10 orders per calendar year. If they've reached that limit, Tesla's terms say buyers using their link “will not receive any buyer benefits.” Certified Pre-Owned cars don't qualify; a custom order or a new inventory car does. And the “up to” in the heading means the figure depends on the car, which is why the card for your trim matters more than the heading.
What to do now
Open the referral link and check the address.
It should show Hong Kong (/en_hk/ or /zh_hk/), not another country.
Read the Model 3 card, not just the heading.
Look for a benefit line, and for any note that names or leaves out the RWD trim.
Configure the Model 3 RWD from that page, in the same visit.
Then read the order summary for a referral line before you pay.
Ask before ordering if there's no line.
A referral “cannot be credited after the order is placed.” Get Tesla's answer in writing.
Screenshot the card and the summary.
Keep both in case the benefit is questioned later.
