Tesla Australia's inventory discount runs to Dec 31. Does a referral stack on top?
An in-stock price cut and a referral are two different things. Tesla's page suggests a referral can apply to inventory; the terms don't say how the two combine.

What changed
Possibly, on a Model 3 — but only your price summary can confirm it. Tesla Australia is taking up to A$3,100 off eligible in-stock Model 3 and Model Y cars until Dec 31, 2026, as Tesla North reported on Oct 6. Our capture of Tesla's Australian referral page from Oct 4 showed an inventory card with “Up to $350 Off”. Tesla's terms say new inventory qualifies but don't say how a referral combines with an inventory price cut, and only Model 3 earns a buyer benefit in Australia.
What happened
On Oct 6, 2026, Tesla North reported that Tesla Australia had cut up to A$3,100 off eligible inventory Model 3 and Model Y cars, until Dec 31, 2026. The report says the savings show under a “Save on Eligible Inventory Vehicles” banner and apply to in-stock and demonstrator cars, not custom factory orders. The examples it gives:
| Car | Reported price | Reported reduction |
|---|---|---|
| Model 3 Premium RWD | A$52,150 | A$2,750 |
| Model 3 Premium Long Range RWD | A$58,800 | A$3,100 |
| Model Y Premium RWD | A$55,950 | A$2,950 |
These are the report's figures for particular cars, not ours, and in-stock cars come and go. Check Tesla's inventory listing for the car in front of you.
Two different things on one price
The inventory reduction is Tesla's price for that car. The referral is a separate benefit. You get it only by ordering through an owner's referral link as a first-time buyer. The two can land on the same order, but they come from different rules, and only one of them is in the Refer and Earn terms.
Tesla's Australian Refer and Earn page (May 20, 2026 copy, “Effective August 22, 2025”) says: “You must custom order or purchase a new inventory vehicle using a referral link to qualify for the programme.” So an in-stock new car can carry a referral. The page doesn't mention inventory discounts, banners or price reductions, so it doesn't say whether the referral comes off before, after or instead of them. Tesla's terms don't say.
What the referral page showed
Our capture of Tesla's Australian referral page from Oct 4, 2026 — two days before the report — had an “Explore Inventory” link and an inventory card reading “Up to $350 Off.” The Model 3 card showed “$350 Off.” The Model Y card showed no figure. An inventory card with a figure on it is the best sign we have that Tesla means the referral to reach in-stock cars in Australia. It still isn't a statement that it stacks with this particular price cut.
Model 3 vs Model Y
This is the part that matters most. The same Australian terms list only one car for buyer benefits: “You can earn buyer and loyalty benefits by purchasing one of the following products: Model 3.” Model Y is listed only for referrer benefits, the ones the owner earns.
| Inventory reduction (as reported) | Buyer benefit under Australia's terms | |
|---|---|---|
| In-stock Model 3 | Up to A$3,100 on eligible cars | Model 3 is listed; the Oct 4 card showed A$350 |
| In-stock Model Y | Up to A$2,950 on the example given | Model Y isn't listed for buyer benefits; the card was blank |
So for an in-stock Model Y, the inventory reduction is the saving. Don't expect a referral figure on top. For an in-stock Model 3, both may appear, and the price summary is where you'll see whether they do.
Demonstrator cars
The report says demonstrator cars are part of the inventory offer. Tesla's Australian terms say Certified Pre-Owned cars don't qualify for referrals, and they don't mention demonstrators. If the car you're looking at is a demonstrator, ask Tesla whether a referral applies before you pay.
How to check the price summary
Open the referral link first, then go to inventory from that page, in the same browser and the same visit. When you pick a car, read the price summary before you pay. You're looking for two separate lines: the inventory price, with its reduction, and a referral line. If the referral line is there, Tesla is applying both. If it's missing, ask Tesla before you order. Tesla's terms say a referral link “cannot be credited after the order is placed.”
What hasn't changed
Built-to-order prices weren't part of this offer, as reported. The referral figure on our latest Australian copy is A$350, the same as on Sep 29. The other rules are the usual ones. The buyer benefit is for a first qualifying Tesla only. An owner who has referred 10 orders this calendar year passes on no buyer benefit. And a referral isn't a promo code — Tesla applies it from the link, not from anything you type.
What to do now
Open the referral link for Australia first.
The address should show /en_au/. Then use “Explore Inventory” or go to inventory in the same visit.
Prefer a Model 3 if the referral matters to you.
Australia's terms list only Model 3 for buyer benefits.
Read the price summary before paying.
Look for the inventory price and a separate referral line.
No referral line? Ask before ordering.
It can't be added once the order is placed.
Mind the date.
The reported inventory offer runs to Dec 31, 2026. The referral figure can change on its own schedule.
