Can you use a Tesla referral code on a Roadster reservation?

Roadster reservations are open again. Tesla's referral page and its referral terms still don't mention the car — and a reservation isn't the same thing as an order.

What changed

Not as things stand. Tesla North reported on Sep 18, 2026 that Roadster reservations reopened with a $50,000 deposit Tesla labels fully refundable. Our capture of Tesla's US referral page on Oct 3, 2026 had no Roadster card, and Tesla's US terms list only Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck and Tesla-installed solar panels as qualifying products. Expect no referral benefit on a Roadster unless Tesla adds it.

What happened

Tesla reopened reservations for the next Roadster. Tesla North reported on Sep 18, 2026 that the reservation asks for a “$50,000 refundable deposit,” paid in two parts: “$5,000 due today by credit card” and a “$45,000 wire transfer due within 10 days.” The report says Tesla “labels the deposit fully refundable” and that “Reservations are not final until the wire clears.”

The same report says the reservation page “does not currently show a confirmed retail price for the finished car, and it does not list a production or delivery date.” Electrek reported on Sep 28, 2026 that Tesla moved its Roadster demo from Oct 1 to Oct 15, citing the weather forecast, and that production is still guided for “2027 or 2028.”

Is the Roadster on Tesla's referral page?

No, on the copies we've read. A referral link opens Tesla's referral page for your country, and every owner's page shows the same benefit cards. Our capture of Tesla's US referral page on Oct 3, 2026 showed these cards:

Tesla's written terms say the same thing in a different way. The US Refer and Earn terms (updated Feb 24, 2026) list the products that earn buyer benefits: Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck and solar panels installed by Tesla. The Roadster isn't on that list, and the terms don't mention it anywhere.

A reservation isn't an order

Tesla's referral rules are written around orders. A referral link “cannot be applied after you place your order,” and an owner's referral counts when a friend places an order through their link. Tesla's terms don't say whether a Roadster reservation counts as an order, or what would happen to a referral if Tesla later added the car to the program. Nobody can answer that from Tesla's public pages today.

What we can say: if you reserve a Roadster without a referral link, you haven't used a referral, and you haven't lost one either. If you've never owned a qualifying Tesla, your buyer benefit is still available for a first Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck or Tesla-installed solar order.

Who this affects

  • People reserving a Roadster in the US: don't expect a referral benefit on the reservation. There's no card for it and no line in the terms.
  • Owners hoping to refer a Roadster buyer: the same applies — referrer benefits count only for qualifying products.
  • Readers outside the US: Tesla North's report covers the US reservation. We haven't read a referral page for any country that shows a Roadster card.

After the Oct 15 demo

Tesla set the demo for Oct 15, 2026. Whatever it shows — and whenever it happens, given the earlier delays Electrek lists — the referral question is decided by two things only: whether Tesla's referral page for your country gets a Roadster card, and whether Tesla's terms add the Roadster to the qualifying list. If both happen, read the card before you pay anything more. If neither does, a referral does nothing for a Roadster.

Watch out

Nobody can sell you a “Roadster referral code.” Tesla's terms say “paid advertising, selling or paying or offering incentives for use of referral links is not appropriate,” and that Tesla “will not honor referral links associated with behavior that violates these Terms and Conditions.” A referral link is free, and today it has no Roadster benefit to give.

What hasn't changed

Everything about referrals on the cars that do qualify. In the US, Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck (Premium AWD and Cyberbeast) showed 3 months of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) on Oct 3, 2026, and solar panels and Powerwall showed $400 off. The buyer benefit is still for your first qualifying Tesla product only, and the link still has to be open before you order.

What to do now

  1. Reserving a Roadster?

Don't count on a referral benefit. Tesla's referral page and terms don't include the car.

  2. Watch for a Roadster card.

If Tesla adds one to its referral page for your country, read what it says before paying any further amount.

  3. Ignore anyone selling a Roadster code.

Tesla's terms treat selling or paying for referral links as not appropriate.

  4. Also buying a Model 3, Model Y or Cybertruck?

If it's your first Tesla, open a referral link before you configure that order.
