The Cybertruck got $5,000 more expensive. Does a referral still apply?

Two trims went up, one didn't, and the referral rules stayed exactly where they were — including the line that leaves the cheapest trim out.

What changed

Yes on Premium AWD and Cyberbeast, no on Dual Motor AWD. Drive Tesla Canada reported on Aug 24, 2026 that Tesla's US configurator moved Dual Motor AWD to $74,990 and Premium AWD to $84,990, both up $5,000, while Cyberbeast stayed at $99,990. Tesla's US terms still say the Dual Motor AWD “cannot be purchased to earn buyer or referrer benefits.”

What changed

On the night of Monday, Aug 24, 2026, Tesla's US configurator showed new Cybertruck prices. Drive Tesla Canada reported the change the same day:

US Cybertruck prices, as reported on Aug 24, 2026
TrimNew priceChangeReferral buyer benefit?
Dual Motor AWD$74,990+$5,000No — loyalty benefits only
Premium AWD$84,990+$5,000Yes
Cyberbeast$99,990UnchangedYes

The same report said this was the first Cybertruck price change since March, and that Canadian prices hadn't moved. We don't print Canadian prices here; check Tesla's Canadian configurator.

The referral rule that didn't change

The price rise didn't touch which trims a referral covers. That was set in Tesla's US terms when they were updated on Feb 24, 2026, and the line is still there:

Cybertruck Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive is eligible for loyalty benefits only and cannot be purchased to earn buyer or referrer benefits through the Refer and Earn program.

Tesla US Refer and Earn terms, updated Feb 24, 2026

Tesla's US referral page says the same thing in a smaller way. On our capture of Oct 3, 2026, the Cybertruck card showed 3 months of Full Self-Driving (Supervised), with the note “Premium AWD & Cyberbeast.” There is no separate card or note for the Dual Motor AWD.

So the trim that just got $5,000 more expensive is also the one that carries no buyer benefit. Neither does the owner whose link you used: the line rules out referrer benefits on it too.

What the referral is, and what it isn't

The US referral benefit on Cybertruck isn't money off, so it can't soften the price rise. On Tesla's US referral page on Oct 3, 2026, the benefit was 3 months of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) on Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck (Premium AWD and Cyberbeast); $400 off solar panels and Powerwall. The Cybertruck card had shown $1,000 off until early 2026; our capture of Apr 1, 2026 was the first to show the FSD trial instead. That earlier change is dated in the changelog.

Financing lines that sometimes appear on the same card are Tesla's general finance offers, not part of the referral.

Premium AWD vs Dual Motor AWD, after the rise

At the reported prices, the Premium AWD costs $10,000 more than the Dual Motor AWD — the same gap as before, since both went up by $5,000. That gap is the price of the cheapest route to a Cybertruck referral benefit. Whether 3 months of FSD (Supervised) is worth anything to you in that choice is your call; Tesla's page puts no cash value on it, and neither do we.

Before you decide, read the card yourself. Open the referral link and look at three things: the heading names the owner (“Order with [first name]'s Referral”), the Cybertruck card shows a benefit line, and the note under it still says “Premium AWD & Cyberbeast.” If the heading says the owner's referral limit has been reached, that link gives no buyer benefit on any trim.

Who this affects

  • First-time buyers choosing a Premium AWD or Cyberbeast: the referral still applies, as long as the link is open before you order and the owner hasn't hit their limit. The price is higher; the benefit is the same.
  • First-time buyers weighing the Dual Motor AWD: no buyer benefit through any link. If the FSD trial matters to you, the Premium AWD is the cheapest Cybertruck that carries it.
  • Existing Tesla owners: any of the three trims can carry loyalty benefits on the same Tesla Account — the Dual Motor AWD line says “loyalty benefits only,” not “nothing.”
  • Owners sharing a link: a friend who buys a Dual Motor AWD through it earns you no referrer benefit.

What hasn't changed

The core rules are the same as before the price rise. A referral link “cannot be applied after you place your order.” The buyer benefit is only for your first qualifying Tesla product. An owner can refer up to 10 orders per calendar year, and once they reach that limit, Tesla says buyers using their link “will not receive any buyer benefits.”

Already ordered?

If you already ordered a Dual Motor AWD through a link expecting a benefit, the terms don't offer a fix, and Tesla's terms don't say what a change of trim on an open order does to a referral. Ask Tesla before you edit the order, and keep the reply.

What to do now

  1. Pick the trim first.

Premium AWD or Cyberbeast if you want the referral benefit; Dual Motor AWD carries none.

  2. Open the referral link before you configure.

Check that the Cybertruck card shows a benefit line and the “Premium AWD & Cyberbeast” note.

  3. Check the price on the day.

Prices changed on Aug 24, 2026 and can change again. Tesla's configurator shows the current one.

  4. Already own a Tesla?

Order on the same Tesla Account and look for loyalty benefits instead.
