Program update · Ordering
Tesla updated the Model 3 in Canada after you ordered. Is your referral still on the order?
Pending orders get the new spec without a new order. That's the detail that keeps a referral out of trouble.

What changed
Very likely yes, if you keep the order you have. Drive Tesla Canada reported on Oct 8, 2026 that pending Model 3 orders “will be getting all of these upgrades” and that Tesla has started emailing customers; prices didn't change. Nothing here requires a new order — and a referral “cannot be applied after you place your order,” so cancelling to reorder is the one move that could cost you the benefit.
What changed
On Thursday, Oct 8, 2026, Tesla's Canadian configurator picked up the Model 3 changes introduced in the US a week earlier. Drive Tesla Canada listed them:
| Change | Which trims |
|---|---|
| 16-inch center touchscreen (was 15.4-inch) | All trims |
| Black headliner | All trims |
| Zen Grey interior replaces the white interior | Premium RWD and Premium AWD (Performance keeps black or white) |
| 19″ Dark Nova wheel option | Premium variants |
| 0–100 km/h in 4.0 s (was 4.4 s) | Premium AWD |
| Vehicle-to-Load and Powershare | Not available on any Canadian Model 3 trim |
The same report says there were no changes to Model 3 pricing. A separate Drive Tesla Canada report the same night said the Canadian Model Y Premium AWD gained the Zen Grey interior and Vehicle-to-Load.
Pending orders get the update
This is the part that matters for a referral. Drive Tesla Canada wrote that if you already have a Model 3 order and haven't received the car, “you will be getting all of these upgrades,” and that Tesla “has already started sending out emails to customers notifying them of the changes.”
So the update comes to your existing order. You don't need a new one. That keeps you clear of the one firm rule in Tesla's referral terms: a referral link “cannot be applied after you place your order.” The referral that was on your order when you placed it is the one Tesla's terms tie to it.
We haven't seen Tesla's email ourselves, and Tesla's referral terms don't say anything about spec changes Tesla makes to an open order. Read your own email closely: if it asks you to accept a change or a new agreement, that's a question for Tesla, not something this note can answer.
Don't cancel and reorder for the update
Some buyers think about cancelling an older order to order “the new one.” Here that gains nothing — the report says pending orders already get the upgrades — and it puts the referral at risk. Tesla's terms say a referral link “cannot be used by the same Tesla Account more than once,” and they don't say whether a cancelled order counts as a use.
Watch out
If you do decide to cancel for another reason, ask Tesla first whether a new order on the same account can carry a referral link, and keep the reply.
The referral benefit itself
On our capture of Tesla's Canadian referral page dated Sep 25, 2026, the benefit was 3 months of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) on Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck. That capture is from before this update; we haven't checked the page since. It's FSD time, not money off, so it doesn't interact with the spec or price of your car.
The owner whose link you used sees your referral as “pending” until the Grant Date. A spec update from Tesla doesn't change whose link is on the order.
How to check the referral is still there
Tesla's terms describe where the owner sees a referral, not where the buyer does. The owner's benefit “will appear as ‘pending’ in the Tesla app until the Grant Date.” So if you know the owner whose link you used, the simplest check is to ask them whether your order still shows as pending on their Refer and Earn screen. If you used a stranger's link, keep the order confirmation and any screenshot of the referral page you took before ordering; those are your record if a question comes up at delivery.
Who this affects
- Canadians with an undelivered Model 3 ordered through a referral: keep the order; the update comes to it.
- Canadians with an undelivered Model Y Premium AWD: the Model Y report doesn't say whether pending orders get the Zen Grey interior or V2L. Ask Tesla before changing anything.
- Canadians about to order: the new spec is the one on the configurator. Open the referral link first, then configure.
What hasn't changed
Prices, as reported. The referral benefit on our last capture. And the rules: links attach only at the moment you order, the buyer benefit is for your first qualifying Tesla product, and an owner who has reached 10 order referrals in the calendar year can't pass on a buyer benefit.
What to do now
Read Tesla's email about the change.
If it only tells you about the new spec, there's nothing to do.
Don't cancel to get the update.
Pending orders get it, as reported. A new order would need a referral link opened before ordering.
Ask before you edit the order.
Tesla's terms don't say what an order change does to a referral. Get Tesla's answer in writing.
Not ordered yet?
Open the referral link, check the Model 3 card, then configure.
