Tesla's referral program reached India: ₹22,000 off a Model Y

India's referral page went up in mid-2026 with one car card. Here's what it shows, what the press reports add, and what Tesla hasn't said.

What changed

India appeared on Tesla's list of referral pages between mid-July and mid-August 2026, and Gaadikey reported the launch on Aug 12. Tesla's India referral page, in a copy of Sep 29, 2026, reads “Gave You Up To ₹22,000 Off a New Tesla”, with one Model Y card showing “₹22,000 Off”. Whether the six-seat Model Y L is covered, the page doesn't say.

What changed

Until this summer, Tesla had no referral page in India. The India address, /en_in/, joined the list of country addresses Tesla publishes on its referral pages between the Jul 12 and Aug 16, 2026 copies. On Aug 12, 2026, Gaadikey reported the launch of Refer and Earn in India. By the Sep 29, 2026 copy, India's referral page showed:

That's the first India figure we can date from Tesla's own page. It's a cash amount off the car, like the figures Tesla shows in Japan and Southeast Asia, not free Supercharging distance or an FSD trial.

What the press reports add

Gaadikey's Aug 12 report says: “The first 10 people who order a new Tesla using the referral link will receive INR 22,000 off their purchase price.” Read that carefully. It isn't a countdown on the whole program. In every country whose Tesla terms we've read, an owner can refer up to 10 orders per calendar year, and once they reach 10, Tesla says buyers using their link get no buyer benefit. “The first 10 people” most likely describes that per-owner cap. We haven't read Tesla's India terms, so we can't confirm it from Tesla.

The same report mentions a reward for the referring owner. Tesla's India page doesn't state the owner's side, so we don't repeat a figure for it.

The Model Y L question

Drive Tesla Canada reported that Tesla launched the six-seat Model Y L in India on Apr 22, 2026, from ₹61,99,000. The referral page shows a single card labeled “Model Y”. It doesn't say whether that includes the Model Y L. In other countries, Tesla has flagged versions it leaves out right on the card — the US Cybertruck card names the trims it covers — but India's card has no such note. Tesla's page is silent, so check before you order.

Who this affects

  • First-time Tesla buyers in India ordering a new Model Y: a referral link should show ₹22,000 off.
  • Model Y L buyers: not stated. Confirm the line on your order summary.
  • Existing Tesla owners in India: the buyer benefit is for a first qualifying Tesla only, everywhere Tesla's terms say so. If you already own one, a friend's link won't give you this figure.
  • Used and demo cars: in every country whose terms we've read, pre-owned cars don't qualify; only custom orders and new inventory cars do.

Check the address

India isn't yet in this site's country list, so the link on this page may open Tesla's US referral page for you. The code is the same in every country. Before you configure, make sure the address shows /en_in/ — the US page shows US benefits, not India's.

What hasn't changed

The rules that trip buyers up elsewhere apply here too, as far as Tesla's terms in other countries go: open the referral link before you order, because a referral can't be added afterwards; it only works once per account; and it's a referral, not a promo code — Tesla applies the figure to your order, and the owner of the link may earn a reward.

What to do now

  1. Open the referral link for India.

    The address should contain /en_in/referral/. If it doesn't, you're on another country's page.

  2. Check the Model Y card shows ₹22,000.

    If you want a Model Y L, confirm the figure appears on your order summary before paying.

  3. Order from that same page.

    A referral can't be applied after the order is placed.

  4. Screenshot the figure.

    Keep the referral page and your order summary in case the benefit is questioned later.
